Dr. Romy Spitz, postdoctoral fellow in the Signed Language Research Laboratory of the Linguistics Program at the University of Southern Maine leads the cognitive assessment component of our research. In conjunction with the NSF-funded population study, Dr. Spitz has added to our testing battery a series of cognitive tasks that assess visuospatial skills, motor skills, problem solving, gesture, and memory. Among other things, her studies allow us to explore the interdependency of linguistic and other cognitive processes.
