Roaming Computers
UNET supports the dynamic assignment of IP addresses via DHCP for computers
registered in the Network Management (NM). This service allows for a computer to be
moved from building to building and still be able to make use of TCP/IP (Internet)
services. Due to security
concerns, UNET does not support the dynamic assignment of IP addresses to unregistered
computers.
UNET supports roaming computers at all locations that make use of UNET's DHCP services.
Some campuses, or departments, run their own
DHCP servers rather than using UNET's DHCP services. If you are interested in
using your computer in multiple locations, please contact either your
local computing support, or UNET Network Operations Center (581-3561 / noc@maine.edu).
