Connecting to the Internet via the University System Modem Pools

Question: What are the phone numbers of the UNET modem pools?

Question: It's a long distance call from my location to all of the UNET modem pools. What can I do?

Answer: You might check out some of the commercial Internet access providers, perhaps by looking in the Yellow Pages under "Internet".

When I try to dial up, it tells me "access denied."

Answer:

In order to use the UNET modem pools, you need an active UNET account. This means you have a userid and password that match the UNET account list, that is checked whenever you dial up to a UNET modem pool. If the userid and password you supply do not match anthing in our list, you get the "Access denied" message.

Everybody in the University of Maine System (students, faculty and staff) as a UNET account, but the account may not be active, or you may not know what it is. For information on UNET accounts, see the accounts document.
