Answer:You can use a modem to dial up to one of the UNET modem pools. If you have the right dialing software and Internet software on your Mac, this will connect you to the Internet. You get 50 hours of dialup time per month for free, and if you want more, you can pay for extra hours at the rate of 30 cents per hour.
You will need an active UNET account (user name and password) to authenticate yourself when you dial up. For information on these accounts, see the accounts web page.
Answer:The operating system is the software that makes your Mac behave like a Mac. As time goes on, Apple keeps upgrading this software. Your Mac came with some version of the operating system, and you may have upgraded since then. The latest version of the "Classic" Macintosh OS is 9.2.2. OS X is the most recent operating system and is now in version 10.2.6 (so-called "Jaguar").
To find out which version you have on your Mac, start the Mac, then pull down the Apple menu and look at the top item ("About this macintosh" or "About this computer"). This will tell you what version of the OS you have installed.
